I garden for birds, butterflies and bees, but my poor cats are being eaten alive by the fleas.  Both cats are treated monthly with Revolution to kill the fleas on them, but one of them has an allergic reaction to being bitten, so I need to reduce the flea population in my yard.  Does anyone know of a safe(r) insecticide I can use in my yard that is less hazardous to the desirable wildlife and insects I have worked so hard to attract?

Hi Buckeye,

Welcome to the Community and to Gardening for Wildlife!Big Smile

This is a great question.  I haven't had this problem so I am glad Pat posted the link.  I will have to check it out.

Let us know if you find a safe solution at that website.

We have used the garlic stuff for a few years now.  www.mosquitobarrier.com  It works, but does have to be reapplied a few times a season. Tip: Don't mix it up in your house. The stuff stinks to high heaven even if you love garlic.

I haven't tried any of the garlic stuff as we've been very fortunate especially here in FL regarding fleas.  But I've been told that guinea fowl or any fowl are awesome bug eaters, mostly ticks!  I'm on 5+ acres and have been trying to talk DH into letting me get a couple of guinea fowl for just that reason and to watch the dog Tank with them.  So far he's very interesting in becoming friends with everything in our yard!

Sorry I digressed.  I don't know if fowl eat fleas but that could be another self renewing alternative to garlic!  But you won't have any vampires either!  Big Smile
