My next project is gathering some rocks to put around my flowers. Never dreamed I would move to a place that has NO rocks of any size. I have to either get them from my daughter's yard when I go visit her or buy them.  This land used to be under the Atlantic and what we have the most of is sand. There is something that almost looks like rocks but it is really folizied sand and shells stuck together.  It is funny to me because we moved here from Stone Mountain, GA which was nothing but rocks. Granite and marble.

Speaking of rocks...

I discovered that I can sometimes find rocks and even stepping stones at garage sales  and estate sales. At one estate sale this summer, the people running it said I could take as many as I could carry from this tote they had that was full of them for $1! I was able to make two small paths in my little garden with them.

And I got a couple bags of mulch and another of 'pebbles' at one sale, all for $1.

I think I saw somewhere that you can make them.  Even color them somehow to represent shading etc.

I don't need to make any rocks here in Pennsylvania.   Actually I don't want any rocks.  Yrs ago we had a barn burn and had a lot of rocks from the barn bridge.  We put them in a field for a while and then I think someone wanted them and dh gave them away.

Rock creek is several fields behind our house and  there are some there in the creek bed.  Wow!  to think that someone wants rocks!

I just checked and if you google making rocks they tell you how.  They are hollow so they don't take so much concrete or whatever.

I wish you lived near me I have about 10 acres of rocks, big rocks, little rocks, every color rock.  I made a 6 foot round fire pit out of the rocks that can just from one little area in my backyard.  I also have used them to make several flower beds in the back.  I think our property grows them, LOL

Yes, I know about making 'rocks'. Some friends of mine decided to do that. Took them all afternoon to make 3.  Think I will just wait till the next time I visit my daughter. Everytime it rains more rocks show up in her yard so she always has plenty.

We moved here from NY and that was a fear of mine orginally and DH laughed. Now I find some when I'm digging. But when in NY we were next to a N flowing river and I dug up a fossil which I showed to colledge students who showed it to their professor who took it to his teacher and it came back dated over 300 million years old. I brought it with us but don't have it outdoors, LOL

I walked thru the gorge near here and one time say a smale pile of jet black sand, But clay is what I have in the yard.

I point out many nice rocks that have slid to the bottem of hills but DH doesn't have the same affinity as I do and he won't stop the car.LOL

I once bought rocks from a yard sale and got to name a price as they hadn't thought to sell them. One is quartz and the other has tourquoise in it. They made the move with us and adorn my flowers. And I paid a dollar a rock.

And I have a few painted slates that I found at yard sales. I just love rocks to go with my flowers. If you know where there are any in WV just let me know and I'll be there. We live by the gorge and the folks drive from all over to climb up and down these rocks. LOL

We have rocks here every time I dig to plant something I find many and all sizes.  I know some people go down by the river and collect flat rocks, small to medium size, and they paint on them scenes, male or female profiles, flowers, etc.  They make nice gifts for inside the home on a table or stand.  They put felt or moleskin on the back of rock so it doesn't mar furniture.  Clever ideas for them.

Let every day be a good day!

I thought I had replied to a thread about rocks, but I don't see it here.

Our 15 acres of woods is on a corner of our former farm.  When we were farming and after we planted oats, we had to "pick rocks".  That was a dreaded chore except if you were driving the tractor.  We would dump the bucket loads of rocks onto the edge of the woods.  Now we have all the rocks we could ever use free.

Also, the guy who owns the farm now said we could come and get as many as we want off any other piles around the farm.

I never got any of the painted animal rocks as they were way too expensive. But they were also the nicest.

I think I would make a basket ball throw with the rocks and maybe have a little fun. I enjoy going to a slate pit and looking for fossils.

wow I have never had to look for rocks!  They are all over here in Michigan! At the beaches, corn fields actually the farmers encourage you to take them.   They don't want them they can ruin their equipment.    They are just everywhere . . even pretty ones!
