we celebrate it.....
Morning all. Was very quiet last night. Maybe the fireworks neighbors went a visitin' somewhere else. Certainly hope so. Heard not one pop last night and happily went to bed about 9 to get up too early this morning for no particular reason. Was at the computer at 2am with first glass of iced coffee. Is cooler outside than in right now so opened up the house to get some free cool air for a few hours before the heat sets in for the day.
Never got to town yesterday so will have to today since Tom 'forgot' some things on the list. Did water everything, did spread out some DE on bug-munched plants, watered in some epsom salts in some places and so forth until it was just to hot to do more. Came in drenched with sweat and got on the computer to cool off and order some items thru Ebates that were on sale. I don't mind shopping online at all but really hate going to town to shop. Wish I could order food online and have it delivered tax free with free shipping.... I could order stuff at Sunflower to be gathered up and all I'd have to do is pick it up and pay for it, however, don't trust any ot them to pick the right things....
South MS got a few showers yesterday but nothing at all here. 'They' say we may get rain sometime this next week....that would be nice. I just hope some fool doesn't start a bad fire today somewhere. Is dry enuf to spread really fast. Lots of MS firefighters are in CO right now helping with those fires so a bad one here would be fast and nasty.
We were going to have a very quiet 4th. Had planned on cooking ribs in Frenchie till they were tender and then Tom was going to smoke them out for awhile (to get them properly 'burnt' and smoke flavored). Had planned to make baked beans in Frenchie too, with a large green salad full of good stuffs. Well, made the salad (and ate lots of it already). Tom didn't get the ribs so I'll have to early this morning.... Lou and Wilma came over briefly to bring me raffle tickets....and then, before you know it, Tom had volunteered me to provide the ribs for all of them. Well, I don't HAVE any yet and can't fit that many in a solar cooker. They don't like smoked flavor so he'll grill them instead. Lou is making the baked beans and I don't have enuf salad to spread to that many. AARRGGHHH....so now, I guess I'll have to find the ingredients in town (can't grow lettuce here, not iceburg lettuce which is all Tom will eat) and do the ribs in the oven where I can manage 3 racks.....best laid plans and all that. So, even tho' supper will be spread about, since Tom is to deliver ribs , salad, and rolls to them and pick up baked beans from them it'll be a crazy day. Everyone wants to stay home to protect their houses from chance fireworks sparks. Pitiful isn't it?
Almost 4:30, must get quietly busy.
Hope everyone has a very safe day. Remember the Veterans who made this day possible.
Well, so much for taking an early shower and getting stuff done. Suddenly lost power for about 1/2 hour. Did NOT want to get into the shower without any warmish water at all, couldn't open the fridge door since didn't know how long power would be out, too dark to go outside yet (almost light enuf now), computer off.....just piddled around checking paperwork by flashlight till that got really old. Power is back on now but it's too late to take a shower and nearly time to do the morning outside chores. Guess the shower will wait till the ribs I don't have are in the oven. Oh well.
Denise, the dogs came down with sarcoptic mange! Just finished up a 10 day antibiotic ordeal and have to dip them with this horrible stuff every week x 4. This was week #2. Seems the mites live forever in the dirt and when Madonna was digging a fresh cool hole outside she got some. Of course, it's contagious as all get out if there's any contact. Have 'treated' her hole and am treating them now (and me, I guess since I get the stuff on them and they shake it on me) Has not been fun at all.
Tigsy, I'm married to a night owl too. Tom has never gotten back on his schedule since Jamie lived here and kept him up till the wee hours every night. I usually get up by 3am and hit the bed by 9pm. He gets up somewhere between 8:30 and 11am and very often stays up well past midnight and sometimes nearly all night watching tv.
Robbie, you've already left by now. Hope your trip is safe and happy. Enjoy the change. I wouldn't want to drive that far in this heat but it'll be fine unless there's a traffic jam or car troubles. Hope you have a super time. Rest up as you can.
Light enuf now so must get busy so I can leave for town when they open up.
Enjoy the day and stay cool.
Good morning everyone. A nice 69 here right now but suppose to get high temp in the 90's and high humidity. Will turn the AC on later.
Brenda you do have your problems. You might want to tell Tom to check with you first before he invites people to supper. LOL. I am sure you will pull it off and everything will be just great! I hear you about fireworks. I found some dead ones in the front and back yard the other day. People dont realize how far they travel. I hope none landed on the house. It poured yesterday so I am sure they would be out if there were. People can be quite stupid.
Not too much going on here today. Just doing some laundry and then I think I will go for a ride on my bike before it gets too hot. Beautiful breeze right now. I am sure it will turn stifling by this afternoon.
Happy 4th of July everyone. Take care and have a great day!!! Stay safe!!
happy 4th to all
brenda you need to just rest
steep glad you did not have to much damage
quite last night
as there is a 2500 dollar fine if caught
Good morning 76 and suppose to be 97 today. I am working solo today, so we will be staying home. Too hard to take all 4 especially since one has dementia so bad. DBF and will not do anything either tonight. Can see fireworks from our yard usually. Would like to go and watch some, but DBF does not like too and it way too hot. Then I have the rest of the weekend off. I want to finish my new bird feeder area. I just have to lay the fabric and get the edgers in, and get some rocks to fill it in. That is my big plan for the weekend.
Brenda nice of Tom to invite dinner guests with out checking with you first. Dinner sounds yummy. What a big job you have with your dogs. Hope this helps and you are done soon. Are there a lot of stores open today?
Sherry glad you finally got some rain. Enjoy your bike ride.
Dave that is a big fine for fireworks.
Well everyone have a great and safe 4th. Sad some have to worry about dump people starting fires. Hope all is safe
Good morning and a happy 4th today. heard fireworks 11pm in the subdivision across the fence! Robbie-have fun on your holiday, I'm going the opposite way down to florida saturday very early am. Sherry- went for early walk, small stores are closed,Kroger is open walk in there to cool off and then back home for the day. Steep-enjoy the nice cool pool water. Keggy- i don't eat pasta, just the sauce with garlic bread. but do like the lipton noodles sometimes. do you swim when out on the boat? have a nice cool day everyone. Mary in Ky going up to 99* today! .
Good afternoon and happy 4th! Spent the
morning shopping with DD, finally found some shoes I can wear for the
wedding. I am all set, except for perhaps finding some solution to
the fact that the earrings I want to wear (my Mom's) are for pierced ears, and
my ears aren't. I think there's a store that might have the solution.
Yesterday we got DH a 3-pc. suit! He hasn't had one in decades. But,
we need some alterations done (and quickly), as he's not
terribly tall. A local drycleaners has a tailor and I think they'd do
a great job, but not open today.
Just went out to move the sprinkler,
and they're already setting off some big fireworks in the adjacent park, which
is full of dry grass. It's currently 97, sunny and breezy. Yikes.
Brenda, sounds like you ought to put
your foot down and explain the facts of shopping and cooking to Tom!
It does indeed sound like you'll have a crazy day. Good luck. Oh no –
power out? Just what you need. My night owl DH started his schedule
way back in college when he worked night shifts at a radio station.
When he got his job here he worked afternoon til 10pm, then was
always up later. This summer he's working earlier, and I can see the
results – he's nodding off in his chair!
Sherry, I agree with you, when it comes
to fireworks especially, people can indeed be quite stupid.
Dave – you mean there's a big fine
for shooting off illegal fireworks? That oughta fix 'em!
Denise, sorry you can't go see
fireworks. Around here lots of towns/suburbs are canceling theirs
because of how dry it is. Far as I know, ours is still on.
Mary – we've almost stopped going for
walks, for the heat. Came home drenched with sweat the other night.
Most stores are open today here. Stay cool!
Hope everyone stays cool and safe from
fires. Seems like so many of us are in near-drought or true drought
conditions. Enjoy the Fourth, however you do!
