Son came in yesterday and said he wished that woodpecker would move on already. He's got a dead tree somewhere nearby and keeps it up for hours on end, I listened to him all last week.Wonder where he's at today because it's been awful quiet.

Maybe his drumming has found him a mate and he doesn't have to drum any more. I had many woodpeckers drumming 2 days ago but today most of it is done, but they are still on the suet block. I could be way off in my thoughts tho.

Have a wonderfull day and feel free to check out some of my photography here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/53805123@N05/

I think you are right on Brian. Today the woods sounded like it had a thousand birds in there. Noisy as all get out. No one at the feeders. I think they are mating in there. :)

I have a flicker that thinks my siding is a dead tree! You can hear him threw the whole house!

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

There has been a red bellied woodpecker drumming on a tree out the woods next to me. Its been going on now for sometime. After hearing the ignorant neighbors dogs bark non stop all night his drumming is rather peaceful.

There has been a red bellied woodpecker drumming on a tree near me too!  But he is not annoying at all since he does it only for a few minutes early in the day.   I Love to hear his call -- it gives me time to get my binoculars -- and get a close up look.

The drumming is also territory-marking, so maybe he's finally made it clear who "owns" that part of the neighborhood!
