in our garden club, each member must come up with an idea for a meeting and do the presentation. i'm a bit shy and don't like taking responsibility for these things. i'm new to the club but not new to gardening but now i'm just stumped to come up with an idea! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Pick a flower you love. And start with the seed and end as a flower arrangement on the kitchen table.

How about a demonstration on seed starting? You can take your trays and your seeds and your soil and show some ways of starting seeds. Or if you have some a demonstration on repotting house plants. This time of the year that is about the only thing growing, maybe even if you have one or two show them how to start new ones from cuttings? That is all that comes to mind at the moment.
You could do as talk on invasive plants. Wilderness posted a good article to start you off,.
Some good ideas here. I was going to suggest seed starting. But Gary's idea is a good one too. If you start seeds you could explain what is involved in starting them. What you need, how you do it & your experiences with it. I think that would be interestihng.

Just read your bio & it appears that you are in a unique position as you have experience with different growing zones & personal climate preferences. I completely understand your reluctancy for public speaking of any sort. So you may have the best experience talking about something you are confident/knowledgable with already. And it sounds like that could be any number of things; as long as you feel comfortable with the topic then that is half the worry.
As for the public speaking part, one of my dear friends had to take many a speech class & give many more presentations (she is now a school teacher). One day I asked my friend how she managed all those speech classes (A's in every one) she told me, that she would find a friendly looking &/or smiling face in the crowd & focus on that person. In a smaller crowd that may be a bit obvious but you could reference that smiling face often or when you may not feel quite as comfortable.
But a Garden Club sounds like fun! I hope you have a great experience. Please let us know what topic you end up choosing!
thanks to you all for your responses! we actually discussed all of your ideas! you are an awesome and informed bunch!
