I just put a couple in the bed by my back door with some mexican petunias...the petunias multiply like crazy....do the cosmos reseed themselves?
I just want flowers that grow like weeds! giggle
Do they! I ADORE cosmo's. they are one of the easiest seeds to grow too, just scatter them to the wind and have a beautiful garden
Yes, they do.
O GOOD!.....I just read too that I should have planted them closer together for support....o well....hoping they multiply and fill in this little bed....it is a "harsh" bed in the summer....it's right outside the back door...so I want it to be pretty!
I had the feathery variety and the stalk variety in my garden, they look really pretty in clusters.
They are also easily transplantable since they are quite hardy, so you could move them around if you need to.
I believe they are wild flowers in parts of the South, the purple ones are in the movie "the Color Purple".
I grew LOTS of them when I lived in Reno, Nevada and we got snow there. They would come right up in the spring, snow or not. I California they grew like weeds...lol. They like it to be dry and sunny, too, but need a good watering when they start to wilt a little. The only ones that were difficult were the yellow or orange ones.
Yea, but what if your flower bed got taken over by clover & weeds, would the cosmos still come back?
I've been too sick & busy at school to weed. The weather was so bad, that I couldn't have been out there even if I had the time.
I had those orange ones all over the place last year, ended up with 2 crops of them & I see them coming back already this year. Are these the ones you mean? This was the 2nd crop, not as tall as the 1st.
The ones I planted are pinks and whites...feathery leaves....I bought about six plants at Lowe's...now can't find any more...dang.
I'll just keep watching for more.....thanks for the input!
