[:'(]  Well I did it.  I brought him to the vet this morning as late as possible.  They said for me to come between 9:30 and 11:00.  Took a care package with his blanket, toy, my t-shirt, a container of food, his organic treats, his bacon treats and his rawhide bone.  The food will only be given tomorrow morning.  They said that he will not be eating this evening.

So much for faithful friends.  He took a shine to every lady assistant there and flirting up a storm.  Let's just say he's not shy.  I on the other hand felt like I was abandoning him.  They put him in a cage and the look he gave me when I left him was......"why am I not going home".

My way of dealing it is to go shopping.  Only I can't stay all day so here it is 2:16PM and I am waiting for the phone call from the vet giving me an update.  When I got home all his toys  were all over the house.  It feels empty somehow without Zorro's presence.  I was able to put on my slippers without him stealing one.  Oh well, I will have to suffer until tomorrow morning.  I am to pick him up early.

I hope everything goes well.  I am nervous though.  The vet had a clause that I can't even go there.  So yes I am waiting for that call.  I know DH will miss him too.  This morning  Zorro jumped on DH and got his usual hugs.

I can't believe how quiet it is here.

Hi Stella !

I know it was hard for you to leave Zorro at the vets but it's the right thing to do and only for a day and I'm sure he'll be fine ! I'm sitting here right now and sending up a prayer that the procedure went ok and that  he's fine. Maybe this will calm him down a bit.....sure wish my neighbor would have Toby 'fixed'...he's so hyper...he's always bouncing off the walls constantly...unless he's sleeping ! He's getting groomed tomorrow...I can't believe he sits still for that !

Sure sounds like Zorro was flirting with the ladies.....LOL....

Thanks Mary Ann.  I asked the vet if Zorro will be calmer.  She said that his personality won't change that much.  She stressed the point that he will not try to run after females.  Plus he will not be able to impregnate other dogs.  She kind of pointed out that cocker spaniels are more active because they are hunting dogs.  I guess I have to accept that.  I did not really go into the breed when I bought him.  I only knew that they were good dogs.  Which he is.  They are also very friendly.

Now as for Toby, it's not too late to have him neutered.  Maybe your neighbour does not mind that he is hyper.  The main objective is for them not to run away.  They do mostly when female dogs are in heat.  Also the vet said that a good excercise program is the best for these doogs.  They need to spend a lot of energy.  I walk him every day so Zorro gets enough.  Keeps me in shape as well.

Hi Stella - the night will be long for you!  As for that 'clause' , that is on every contract absolving them of anything drastic happening - seems if it does, there should be no pay involved - but that is not how it works!  If you remember, it was on your hospital contract too!

Just have faith that all is going to go well - and tomorrow your dog will be with you again.  He'll likely be in better shape than you will be!........................Elaine

Hi Stella,

DD had her dog done a couple of weeks ago and everything turned out ok and he wasn't long before he was back to his old playful self. He'll want to rest and sleep for the first couple of days, but he will be fine, I'm sure ...

Now if U can only relax, lol ... Smile

What is your dog getting done? If its a simple neutering he'll be fine and in the long run it will be better for your dogs health.

The clause is on every medical document, from dentists, to vets, to doctors, to hospitals.

stella ; It's only one nite and it will be hard for you. But Zorro will sleep most of the nite. trust me. When we bring our dogs home they sleep a LOT.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement.  I know that it's only for one night, but boy you cannot imagine how empty this house feels.  Even DH who is not usually so verbal about things like that, keeps agreeing with me that it is silent here.

I did get some good news from the vet.  Zorro is doing well.  I got a call around 5:00 this afternoon.  Still I miss him and I bet he misses me.  He is probably wondering why did she do that to me.......leaving me.  Oh brother....I can just see him.  DH said that he bets the dog will be so excited to see me tomorrow morning.  I can go pick him up at 9:30 and not before because that's when they open the clinic.  Do you think I'll sleep tonight?

To try to pass the time I picked up all his toys and set them in his crate.  Washed the kitchen floor for his arrival tomorrow.

I'm sure the vet will give me directions on how to take care of him after this surgery.  From what I understand, he will be quiet for a few days.  I wonder if he will be able to go for a short walk.  I will consult the internet for suggestions.

When I had Chelsea done.  I dropped her off  that morning & picked her up that afternoon.  She slept the rest of the day off & on but by the next day was back in form.  When I had my male done a few years ago, dropped him off the night before like you & picked him up the next day. Like the vet says it kept him from wandering off for hours at a time & kept me from having a nervous breakdown worrying about him.
