I was still a little too far away from this bird to take a better pic of it even w/ my new cam w/ the good zoom.  I wish I had gotten closer but I thought he'd fly off if I moved in closer. Although it might have been a cool shot of this bird taking off upon seeing me.  I'm just still feeling so green about birding and learning some good photography techniques w/ the digital zoom cam I now own thanks to Dan.

I'm certainly no expert but I have never seen any type of hawk with a red chest like that.  Was it a large bird?  I'm curious to know what it was myself.  Hope I remember to come back & check.  I can't believe B&B edited out the word br----

Hi!  Yes it was a large type of bird.  I noticed it in the trees out in the back and at first thought it a hawk.  Now I have no clue!  Which is why I'm posting it in here.  I think I'll post it also in Jean's thread today to see what they all say.  I was going to post something else there, but... Thanks for the reply.

Marg  - - -  It appears that you took this picture in the morning just after the sun rise. I think the red on the breastfeathers is just picking up the light from the "new" sun. The shape of the bird along with the pointed tail makes me believe that it is a Mourning Dove.

From the shape, especially the head it looks like a mourning dove.  The color change is probably from the way the sun is hitting the feathers.  Have fun with your camera - it is fun to get good shots.  Jan

Thanks everyone!  I think I agree that it might be a mourning dove!  They are fairly large birds!
