Here is something interesting

http://s1.webstarts.com/SuesButterflyHaven/uploads/butterflymosaic__Medium_.jpg

We have a club here on Digital Scrapbooking that I dabble in.  They told us about a free software program at    http://www.shapecollage.com

You can use more than one photo, have the photos closer together, make a transparent background etc.  There is a video on how to use and you just start playing the the features.

Enjoy!

Hi Butterfly Sue,

Thanks for making this post.  Just loggin in tonight and was away a couple of days over the wkend.  Thanks for sharing the info!  I will definitely look into it.  I've been not so happy a camper re photobucket.  Was looking into other photo image housing websites.  What do you and everyone else around here use other than photobucket?  I believe that photobucket is the most popular.

I don't use photobucket primarily because it's a "commons" website which means anyone can legally take your photo and use it however they want. (side note; many photo websites are like that... so beware...) You'd think it won't matter except you can lose legal rights over your own photographs... and Lord knows how some people can utilize your shots?? Some photography sites make a claim in the agreement that anything you upload on their website becomes theirs legally the minute you upload it. Overall if you just trying to publish on an amateur level that might not matter much but I'd be careful there ... who knows where your photography is going to take you later down the road and it would be lame to lose rights to one of your favorite shots? Not to mention in photobucket legally if someone takes one of your photographs and manipulates it in photoshop they can claim it as their own. (again big lame alert there....)

That said; I use flickr. I've been using it for about five years and I'm pretty satisfied with it. You can do it free or go pro. Pro allows you to upload really large files, them in their original size, and you can still retain copyright of your photos there or even choose what rights you want to retain legally. They have an option where you can upload family shots but only your family can see it (not the public) And I'd say holistically I'm pretty happy with them. I think (???) I pay something like 24 dollars a year to go pro so it's a fair price too but you can still upload a lot of shots going free as well. It also keeps a copy of my originals online in case my comp crashes.

p.s. many places that have used my shots; ex; wa dept of ecology, british columbia university, the boise zoo etc.. I was got in touch through flickr. I think overall online most semi-pros and professionals use flickr. Anyway.... just things to think about. Here is the website for anyone who's looking to leave photobucket.

Lori, thanks for the great advice!  I think I'll go over to flicker today!  I already have felt that a few of my pics have been "stolen" from me.  I live in Lancaster County PA and have the opportunity to take lots of wonderful pics of Amish of whom many are my friends.  Pics that outsiders might not have access to, as well.  Again, thanks for the advice.  So I hope to se ya around on the board.  Why not make yourself an avatar pic?  Doesn't have to be your own photo or anything.  I don't use my own photo for security reasons.

Thanks for the suggestion Marg I'll post my shot today. (I'm so often on the wrong end of the camera.) Many of my shots showed up on deviant-art a website that does exactly what I mentioned they photoshopped my shots and took credit. I've even saw that happen to a nice fellow in Montanna by the local news of all things!!

Oh another really neat thing about flickr - if you tag your shots (Amish for example) and when someone researches that your shots pop up. Let me know your site when you get it up and running Marg I'd love to stop by and take a look at your work!

Sorry to intrude but I thought that if you have your photobucket marked as private, others cannot go in unless you post a link. Is that true? I have had an account for many years and how do you know if they use your pictures? I don't have that many that would be considered that great, especially after seeing some of the photos in the bird section here. I feel somewhat intimidated with all of these better shots. Even to the point that I don't bother posting ....I would clear my photos out if they do this but then all of my older posts on Garden Stew would be gone because that was where they were linked too before they put there own album area on the site.
