just being picky? i have spent a great deal of time on waiting room lately. so i have noticed people. and i am amazed at how sloppy people dress when going out in public. they have dirty feet, in sandels, unkempt hair, bra straps hanging out and just really unkempt in general. now i know that we can't be a fashion plate all the time but i was brought to not go out in public unless i was well groomed andhad my hiar combed. some of the people i spotted in public looked terrible. i would not go to the front door looking as such.
what are your thoughts on this? am i just showing my crabby old age?
Well, I didn't want to mention what I witnessed last night at the Atlantis Casino buffet, but since you brought up the subject, I'll tell you my story..lol. So, last night, I met hubby and some friends at the Atlantis buffet. I got off work late, so I told hubby to go ahead and grab a table and I would meet them there. I walked into the huge dining room and proceded to look for hubby and friends. As I searched for their table, I saw a woman flossing her teeth at a table. Really grossed me out! Then everything started to gross me out. I saw a fat man sitting at a table with his shirt pulled up and his belly hanging out licking an icecream cone. Then the guy in front of me at the salad bar wiped his hand across his beard, then took the tongs that layed in the salad and loaded up his plate then put the tongs back into the salad with the handle of the tongs he just picked up laying in the lettuce. ugh..I guess after seeing the lady flossing her teeth at the table, I just became hyper-sensitive to all the gross things people do. Kind of like an acid trip in the 60's, lmao....look there, a lady flossing her teeth..look there a fat man licking an icecream cone..look there, tiny elephants walking across the bean salad..lol..
Years ago, DD and I took DH out to a very nice restaurant in a hotel for Father's Day dinner. And near us sat a woman flossing her total mouth---every single one of her teeth. I couldn't believe anyone could be so gross. Now Cal saw the flossing thing, too. Maybe it was a relative of the woman I saw! LOL
But, yes, some people are just gross these days. But I would rather see a clean bra strap hanging out of a tank top than no bra and boobs hanging out.. Seems like that is kind of a fashion statement with some young women these days---colored bras and the straps purposely showing.
The ONLY time I have gone out in public without makeup on and my hair done was when my DD had to take me to the ER 5 years ago. But that was an emergency! I would never go shopping or anyplace else without taking a shower and shampooing my hair, putting on makeup and curling my hair. Also wearing clean clothes. I don't dress up to go most places anymore, but I am in nice pants and a colored T shirt.
They used to have separate rooms for smokers in restaurants. Maybe they should have separate rooms for gross people, too! LOL
my DH laughs at me because I have to shower and put on may makeup BEFORE we go for our walk. He says "You're just going to get all sweaty!" I never go out in public looking "bad"--not if I can help it! Yesterday at the mall I saw an older teen girl walking around in socks! Geesh, how hard is it to put shoes on? And there are so many grossly dressed, sloppy people--yuck. Sorry, but they don't even try, and I'm talking about the women!
Life is short, eat dessert first!
Yes this does bother me. I don't like sitting in those dirty germ filled chairs in a Dr's. office and I never ever pick up any magazines to read while sitting there waiting . I even hate to touch the pen they have there to sign in. I take my own pen and reading material with me from home. When I see someone out in dirty clothes or those ugly stretched out cartoon pajamas that are dirty and dragging on the filthy floor of every step they take and frayed..........I guess they don't own a mirror at their house. I'm like Lizzie first thing when I get up I make sure my make-up is on and my hair is combed and teeth are brushed in the bathroom. NOT at the kitchen table. Seems there is no such thing as manners anymore. Glad my parents took the time to teach them to ME :)
Some store and shops actually have signs that say,," No Shoes, No shirt, No service,"
I see that all the time, and I "wonder". I think too, is it me or them. LOL If I was out with filthy feet or clothes, it was because there was an emergency and I had no time to change!!! People are out in their PJ's and slippers etc...... I truly do not understand it.
I remember going to Downtown Pittsburgh (I grew up in the suburbs) with my Mom as a kid. I was dressed in my Sunday best, complete with lacey socks, patent leather shoes, matching purse, & gloves. I also remember going somewhere with my Dad, I had jeans & a nice shirt on. Dad said, "You're not going anywhere with me looking like that." I went back upstairs, put a skirt on with the same shirt, and that was ok.
Today, I see people out in public dressed in a manner that I wouldn't wear around the house!
So, if it is you, it is me too.
Oh, I totally agree w/ you and w/ everyone else's comments here so far! I hate looking at all the slobby, sloppy people, hate underwear of any sort hanging out, hate boobs hanging out, hate the really short shorts on a lot of the girls and women that almost look like underwear, and it goes on & on. I can only imagine that a lot of people might not even be wearing clean clothes -- maybe even pulling them out of the laundry basket! I mean, how hard is it in this day and age to throw some dirty clothes in the washer and dryer? Some people really smell, too, or wear too strong perfume or scented hair spray which I cant stand as much as the other smelly! I don't wear much make up at all, mostly cuz it's a bit expensive for my small budget. I do try to wear some when dressed up for something, however! Also, I don't know about you, but I won't wear those inexpensive flip flops around in the stores, or out, not because I don't like them but I'm afraid they'd break on me and there I'd be shoeless on one foot! I'm also scared to wear them in the stores for fear of stubbing my toes or getting them cut by something somehow! I do like to wear flip flops around at home or at the pool they are a must!
Speaking of the pool or shore, I can hardly stand what people wear for bathing suits, either! Hate the sloppy tshirt/shorts thing but hate the fat ladies in the bikinis! lol!

I always dress neatly, don't wear makeup, but my hair is combed and earrings on. I hate, hate hate those pj bottoms that eveyone wears out!!! ughhhh, and slippers!!!! they wear them allover, to the mall and gorcery stores My pet peeve!!! :)
I agree--like how hard is it to take a 15 minute shower and wash your hair?
shortbreadlover:what are your thoughts on this? am i just showing my crabby old age?
I agree with you too, although I don't see that so much at my doctors office..but I know what you mean. I really don't mind the more relaxed way of dressing (that may be a good thing) but I do mind the dirt. I don't even care if they want to wear pj's and slippers, short shorts and tank tops.... as long as they are clean.LOL
I remember my grandparents going into town dressed in their Sunday best..I think those were really neat times..I love to look at the old photos and how well the people dressed just to go to town in the old days.I think it all started in the 60's with the hippie generation. LOL
I'm a fuddy duddy too! shocking how sloppy people can look, don't think they look in a mirror,i try to look tidy wherever i go! Mary in Ky
It's not only in Drs. offices but at church. I don't believe people have to have expensive clothes, just keep the ones that are affordable well kept and clean. Sometimes when I see people out who look like they just rolled out of bed, I feel like I look better in my "work" clothes. oh well such is life!!!

Old fuddy-duddy reporting in here too! I get dressed and put make up on as soon as I'm up and showered in the morning whether I'm going anywhere or staying home - I do it for me.
