Pacman good shot of the whitetail. Pretty soon you are going to make me feel sorry for them. We had deer chops tonight though and they were very tasty. And does taste the best but don't tell her that.

Jean what kind of squirrel is that. It looks like a red squirrel, sometimes called pine squirrel, to me. Is it? Just doesn't look right for a grey squirrel.
Topaz great Colorado mountain scenery. I've taken US 550 from Durango to Montrose a few times. Now there are mountains to die for.
And Ed love those snappers. I've always wondered what turtle soup tastes like. Sorry people but food is my big connection to life. I like to try everything.

Actually Dan, from my brother-in-law in Missoula, he claims fawns taste best. (Sorry about that but the truth is the truth.)
Also if you want a 20 year proven recipe for deer burger send me a pm and I will send you my email addy to discuss it. It is also a very healthy recipe.

Pacman, fawns are definitly more tender and probably taste better depending on your opinion. I've definitly eaten a few. However they don't have much flavor. Also after butchering about 90 deer in my lifetime I can tell you a fawn is an awful lot of work for about 20 ponds of meat. It is just not worth it unless you enjoy cutting up deer. We have our deer burger mixed with half beef worked up with about 8% beef fat. Makes a great healthy product. I've only had straight beef hamburger once in about the last 40 years. I'll never forget it. We put the burgers on the grill and flames shot to the moon from all the grease. It's a wonder anyone in America is alive eating that stuff. Oh yea I guess I've had beef at McDonalds and such. But who knows what that stuff might be made from.
I agree Dan, that a fawn is way to small for the work.
Now since we have opened the door to the recipe. We have messed with the right mix for what we could call deer burger. What we use is 50% beef brisket (untrimmed and all of it) and 50% very lean deer meat. Now if you check it out, you will find that the fat in beef brisket is a healthy fat, much unlike beef tallow. Whole different chemical make up. (Dang I don't have a link anymore--trust me.)

Dan & Dee, I have only had Grey Squirrels here....at least I think so. Maybe it was my limited knowledge with my camera or could the sunlight caused the red tint? I will share another picture of the same squirrel on your thread for tomorrow.

Dee we do have fox squirrels here. Almost every town has them. Somebody along the line introduced them and then I suppose people trapped them in Havaharts and spread them all over. They cannot live in the woods in Montana because there is nothing to eat but every town has hardwoods for street trees and it is enough to support them. Jean I am anxious to see your next picture of that squirrel as it looks more like a pine squirrel than a grey to me. Pacman thanks for the deer recipe.
