We even make our own laundry soap and automatic dishwashing soap!  HA  Now my DD says that's just cheap but I'll tell you my clothes are really clean, smell great and are lasting much much longer!

I keep old jeans for quilts.  I just cut the square all the same sew them together with some type of fancy stitch and just leave it.  More like a throw if you will!  They look really neat with different color jeans and thread!  When you wash it just frays the ends.  Kind of neat.  Another thing I do is try to find old wool army blankets and make rugs!  I wash and let them air dry in the summer and then create them in the winter . . the wool makes my legs warm!

Kimmer...all the stuff you save for starting fires makes me think that your are a Pyro...lol.  I love to see things being used and reused.

I have a friend that made a nice compost pile from pallets... He stood them on end and put hinges on one of them for a door...Charlene

I'm loving all the responses to this thread!!

My husband and I have been "GOING GREEN" for most of our 45 years of marriage. When we were first married we didn't have much money so we needed to be frugal. We save jars, coffee cans, cat litter jugs( for watering plants), and other containers for reuse and what we don't use goes into recycling bins. You would be surprised at how little trash there is when you reuse and recycle. We have a mulch pile where we put all our fruit and vegitable scrap, coffee grounds and tea bags. Yard waste also goes into the mulch. Several times a year we get nice mulch to use in the gardens. My husband keeps scrap wood and nuts and bolts. We both wear our old clothes to work in around the house and only throw them away when they have too many holes. The spring type clothes pins do double duty hanging clothes and keeping plastic bags closed.
