We have had Cooper's hawks nesting in our trees for about 4 years. How do we get them out of the neighborhood?
I don't know. I tried to scare one off, it didn't work. When I researched the problem, the only real suggestion I got was to quit feeding the birds for a while. There are a few hawks that have been stalking my bird feeders for about six years. I have read that they come back to the same place each year.
From your username, I take it you live on a farm. If that is correct, you may be able to answer my question. In the last month,(I live in Oklahoma City), there is a rooster that has taken up residence in my back yard. He is really cute and I like him a lot. I have been worried that one of the hawks will get him. One tried real hard last Thursday. I just happened to look out the back door when the hawk was chasing the rooster. I went screaming out the back door with the broom. The hawk left, but I am sure he will be back. I would like to build the rooster some sort of shelter the hawk can't get in. I was thinking of building a box with boards with the opening just small enough that the rooster could duck into and maybe the hawk couldn't get in. There are also a cat or two that occasionally stalk my backyard. Since they cannot fly, the rooster might have a chance of getting away from them.
Do you have any ideas?
Thankyou Judk

Hi conniefarm, Try posting this question on Bird Watching. There are many seasoned birders there who may have an answer for you.
I have Hawks occasionally....stalking my birds...but they nest elsewhere.
