Ed,   - - - That is an absolute beautiful shot of the Mourning Dove. Although I am not a fan of them(probably the dumbest bird alive now) and I'll probably "catch it" for that; still I can appreciate beauty when I see it.

Swordbird, hi there!  I got here tonight!  lol!  I enjoyed the pics of the mourning doves tonight.  I found another poem I thought I'd share here w/ you guys.  It's about mourning doves this time.  Seemed appropriate enough!  When I copied and pasted I didn't know how to get the type darker.  I guess you all can make it darker if you wish to read it!!!

Have you seen my mourning dove?
Have you heard her cry?
I haven't had a glimpse of her,
For darkness in the sky.
She’s hard to miss while she’s at flight,
So far away from ground,
I’ve searched the skyline far and wide,
She’s nowhere to be found.
She’s maybe taken different roost,
She’s maybe down for night,
Still on this eve a branch is bare
Where mourning dove would light.

Concerned for her the wind is calm,
And keeps itself at bay.
The thunder and the lightening know,
It’s not the time to play.
I pray my search for mourning dove
Won't prove to be in vain.
I need her like the air I breathe,
Like time of drought needs rain.

I fear I may have broke her heart,
In process broken soul.
I fear the years of my neglect,
Finally took their toll.
I keep in faith a ray of hope
May shine upon her wings,
‘Cause heaven opens up the gates,
When mourning dove, she sings.
In times together and apart,
I knew she had to roam.
I pray someday my mourning dove,
Might find her way back home.

Good Morning Sunshine!

I like your quote!  I didn't know that about Pigeons...interesting fact.

Here is a picture I took last summer of a House Finch.  In a strange pose.

Have a great day!

Hi Everyone,

This is my one of my favorite spots to share my pix. Still trying to think of special quotes. As for bird facts, I'm sure some of you know this stuff but for recent  birders this might be news:

Formerly the house finch lived only in the Western part of the US and Mexico.  In the 1940's a few of these pretty birds were sent to New York City to be sold in pet stores. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 made it illegal to cage and sell migratory birds. In order to avoid persecution and fines for selling what they were calling "Hollywood Finches", the house finches were quickly and secretly released on Long Island.  They have adapted well and now all of  the present day Eastern house finches have descended from these few.
