Hi Carol,

You are right. Those are juncos. I love those little guys.

I have many bird books, each one has great info on all aspects of the bird. One of my favorite for ID is "The Sibley Guide to Birds". It shows various stages of development per bird (fledgling, juvenile, non-breeding, regional differences, appearance in flight and of course, male- female variations). Info on size and  special color distinctions are also mentioned. Worth every penny.

Your cute little Bird is a Dark-Eyed Junco. What Bird book do you have?

Thanks Carol and Swordbird. After I saw them again this morning, I noticed the light beak on it, I am so excited that I actually id a bird. YEEEE HAA. Took a better pic this morning too. Also got a Cardinal, a Downy and what i think is the Red bellied Woodpecker. I'm going to put them on puter tonight. If I can wait that long.LOL Nice to meet you Carol!!!

Thanks on the book info I'll be sure to check it out. I'm putting a little money aside here and there so I can afford a decent bird book.

Swordbird... I just have a Backyard Bird Identification guide. Only 64 pages and thats including the index. Here is the pic I took this morning.. They sure are cute little dudes and dudets.  Have a good day and thanks again.

Carol aka Glory123,

Nice ID!  The Sibley's is a good Birding book. I like the one that I use(maybe a little bit of prejudice there). It is National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America. I started with the Third Edition and use it on Birding trips. I also now have the Fifth Edition(2006) which I keep at home as a Desk Reference. I think there is a new edition out now. Both of these books are "Soft" cover with plastic? coating on the covers to keep off moisture. They also might make a Hard cover, but not sure.

Good Luck and Good Birding.     - - - - DeeCool

Hi Glory,

So glad you were able to indetify the Bird! Juncos are so cute.......and I love seing them every winter.

For suggestions on Bird Books, the best one I have is The Sibley Guide to Birds. If you live in the eastern part of the U.S The Sibley Gudie to Birds of Eastern North America is also a great book. And the same with The Sibley Gudie to Birds of Western North America if you live in he western part of the US. I probably am not saying the titles completely right, but they are called something similiar.

While you are saving up to buy a new book, check out your library supply.
