Grandmaof2, thanks for sharing that about Ft Sumter. I never though of my ancestors as distinguished historical figures, though, other than Robert E Lee!! My Great great aunt Anne Bannister Pryor's df was a col. in the confederate army in the civil war. He was killed in a battle and aunt annie and her dm ended up being quite penniless and nearly homeless. Robert E Lee himself would come to visit their home to check on them and bring them food and ordered soldiers to watch their home and neighborhood. Across the street from where they lived, a couple of cannon balls hit that house but not theirs and put big holes in the roof and landed in the living room of that house and split their grand piano in 2! Those folks were upset the most about the piano being torn to pieces! lol!! Such a sad affair that civil was and unnecessary I think. Too bad it had to be fought. Southerners were all freeing their slaves by that point and the industrial age had come and slavery wasn't really the issue any longer. I guess if anything it needed to be fought over the civil rights issue w/ the blacks. So we have still been fighting that one since the civil war era. Sorry I got long winded. I get excited about how I feel about the civil war in this country even though I'm a northerner I have southern roots too and feel more strongly about the south's feelings about wanting to secede from the Union.
We also need to change the title of this pic thread and start a newer one don't you think. I think your pics you mentioned that you want to post would be just find. Sometimes it's hard to find a spot to post some pics you want. Also you can post them in Steve's neighborhood pic post.

Marg this is incredibly interesting information from the Civil War and your ancestors. Like you, I am intrigued about all wars and the civil war in particular. It amazes me that you can get someone to go to certain death and usually over nothing. Seems to me if the two opposing countries have a problem with each other, the leaders should arm wrestle for the prize instead of sending thousands off to battle. Dr Zeuss wrote a nice book about the subject that I used to read to the kids. "The Butter Battle War" I believe it was called. The two countries were fighting over which side to butter your toast on. I saw your bird picture back a couple posts. Not bad, but let me assure you. There is no way you are going to get a flight shot with this camera. I'm not saying you were trying, just that it won't happen. Your subject is going to have to be still and you are going to have to carefully squeeze off the shot. And above all take LOTS of pictures. For every one I keep, I throw away a dozen. If I were a pro I would throw away even more.

Whoops! The Dr. Zuess book was called "The Butter Battle Book".

What beautiful fall pics, everyone!
Marg, what an interesting ancestory you have! I love reading about your ancestors and anything about the early history of our country.

Wild gerainum leaves...
Welcome KayLRZ!! May I ask what plants you have in your pic?? The orange color is absolutely beautiful! I hope you post here often.
Kay and Grannyfarmer, like Pat said, gorgeous pics of fall colors. Cool looking geranium plant.
Susan, beautiful pic of the river and the sky in MI.
Pat thanks for the nice comments about my stories of family history.
Here is a pic of my geraniums I took 2 days ago before we got all the rain that ended in a good ol thunderstorm last night! Can't believe that we had a thunderstorm last night at this late date in November! Unheard of here! It's cold now too. Mid 40s!

Grannyfarmer, of course, I know the Susquehana R. Are you from PA? I forgot where you said you were from. I have driven over that river so many umpteen times! It is a beautiful river and not far from here there is an area where you have the most awesome view of that river just from hwy 441 and have seen that a number of times near Columbia, PA. I can always just picture a Nat. Amer. on a horse standing still and looking over the river from that overlook area where I love!
Margba - we are in Bradford Co. on the North Branch about 50 miles west of Scranton!
I always loved that river when I went to HS down in Middletown near Harrisburg - I married a Hershey Man and we retired up north because that's where Hubby and his Dad used to go hunting!
Our youngest son took me for a boat ride up river and back last summer and I loved it!
Grannyfarmer, thanks for the fyi on your whereabouts! I would love a boat ride along that river sometime. I have been canoeing on the Upper DE R but not on the Susquehana. It is a very beautiful river but shallow as far as rivers go. I hope you share more pics of it here. I hope we can keep this little pic thread going. What do you think we should change the title soon cause fall will be up soon. Maybe Christmas photos for Dec. Then maybe Winter photos for the rest of the winter?
Yes I was thinking of doing a winter thread and then spring and summer one too if others wanted to contibute! Maybe we should put the year on each and see how long we can keep them running? I'm pretty good at keeping a single thread going on the guppy site that I belong! I just thought that Photo tips and techniques was a great place to share photos that don't quite fit anywhere else!
